A USA TODAY BESTSELLER! Rocked Up is a STANDALONE rockstar romance and the light, sexy, fun brainchild of the husband and wife writing duo, Scott Mackenzie and New York Times bestselling author Karina Halle.

I've been watching him since I was young.
He didn't notice me back then and it didn't matter. Brad Snyder, guitarist and singer for one of the world's greatest bands, was my entire life.
My father, the CEO of Ramsey Records, takes credit for all of Brad's success, trying to control him in the same way he's controlled me.
But I finally get an opportunity to prove myself.
To be wild.
To be free.
Today I'm auditioning to be the replacement bass player for Brad's band. If I get the job, I'll go on tour and work with Brad every day, in very close proximity.
There's only one rule he's not allowed to touch the boss's daughter.
Remember when I said that Brad never used to notice little ol' me?
Well, Brad's noticing me now.
In a way that's going to get us both in trouble.
My name is Lael Ramsey and we all know how this will turn out.

Oooooh this book is so hard to review. I definitely enjoyed this book, and loved parts of it. The addition of Scott MacKenzie’s writing is definitely felt in this novel. Immediately Brad is a more captivating, sensitive presence than we’ve seen before. He’s definitely a wounded rocker, and while incredibly male does not seem to exude that same testosterone driven feeling that so many of the male characters in Halle’s books do. To my pleasant surprise I found that I actually connected with Brad’s character more than Lael’s.

Lael was a wild child and fiecely confident and independent. Brad had a very hard childhood, and that shows in his vulnerability. What I absolutely loved about this book from both sides is that there was never any real drama beyond the basics outlined in the first several chapters. There were no surprise girlfriends/babies/ex-hookers crawling out of the woodwork. This was a story about Lael and Brad. When she winds up pregnant(no spoiler, look at the cover!), there is no drama. Brad knows he loves her, and while not planned, knows he’s going to love that kid. Lael knows that she’s keeping baby and that its going to work out. This part of the book I loved, and yes there is the added drama with her dad but that was something that was happening before the baby.

A few things that detracted from the story were the naiveness of these characters. Brad in particular when it comes to his money. I know he owed the man alot, but that contract seems like a giant crime and while certainly when he was 17 I could see him signing it. I don’t know why he didn’t revise it later into somthing that gave him a better deal. Also Lael’s dad. Yes he was controlling, but surprisingly enough I felt that he was very one dimensional. We never really see a redeeming side to him, and as this is one of my favorite things about Halle’s books I was disappointed that we never really saw that come through her writing.

Overall I loved this book, and I’m so happy that I can reward this with a 4 star rating, I was pretty nervous about the match up since sometimes these partnerships just don’t mesh well, but I liked it. Great first novel together!

Rocked Up Karina Halle Scott Mackenzie 9781546747505 Books Reviews

Going in to a book that was written by two people is always a little difficult for a reader. Will the authors have two totally different voices that don't flow? Will you still wonder who wrote what? Will it be sloppy or will they blow it out of the water?? Scott and Karina did an excellent job of having two voices for Brad and Lael. I could tell who wrote what, but each character and their voice made sense and the way the story was pieced together, it just worked seamlessly.
Lael is the daughter of a music mogul that represents Brad and his band, And Then. The characters meet repeatedly in the past, but there is "the one time" that sticks out to Lael and that is what we start the story with. It leaves us with laughs, anticipation of where the story will go and how we will be Rocked Up.
"I want this. I want what Brad has."
The story is a total rock star romance. I enjoyed it so much more than many other "rocker romances" because obviously these authors know a lot of what goes on in the industry and the simple fact that we got to see these rockers rock. In other books a lot of times it's just an afterthought and that's what these characters do to make themselves interesting, but not Rocked Up. We got to see how each character handled the limelight. What they did on the side stage before entering the stage and how they rocked it out together competing for the total musical chaos that is rock n roll. That is what kept me coming back for more. Plus Lael is a total bada$$ bass player. She's got balls and she knows how to showboat. LOVED her!
"Play for you. Don't worry what they think. You have a story to tell and a show to give and you'll do it because they're here for you. Don't forget that."
Of course it can't be all music. We had sex (and some fun "rock n roll" style sex), we had bar fights, we had bus travel and we had random things happening in the desert that made me laugh at loud at the outrageousness.
It was a light and fun book that kept me entertained and I really liked the two main characters and the pacing of the story. It went kind of fast, but then again, it was a fast read that kind of left me wanting more. It had little angst, but it showed how you make yourself. How you follow your dreams and your passions and you go for it. Screw the haters and the ones you're supposed to trust. Take your life by the horns and do it. Love will make you do crazy things, but if you have the passion, all will end right in the world.
"Love-it's a drug I've never tried because I've seen it kill so many others. Maybe I am the drug and deep down I know I'm no good."
I call this book a win for this team. The knowledge of music and storytelling they brought together made for a great read with some laughs, little drama and rock on good times.
